Capsicum Paruppu Curry


Ingredients needed for the Capsicum Paruppu Curry
1 cup Moong Dal / Green Gram Dal
2 cups capsicum cut in to small pieces
2 green chillies
4 garlic flakes
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp jeera / cumin seeds
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tbsp oil

 For tempering the Capsicum Paruppu Curry
2 tsps of  oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
4 small sambar onions
handful curry leaves
3-4 red chillies broken into two

How to prepare Capsicum Paruppu Curry?
Heat oil in a pressure pan and fry the dal for 2 - 3 minutes or till a nice smell comes.
Add slit green chillies, crushed garlic flakes, turmeric powder, cumin seeds / powder and the red chilli powder. Mix well and fry for a minute.
Add about 4 to 5 cups of water and the salt to taste.
As the water starts boiling, pressure cook the dal  for about 10 minutes ( after the first whistle , simmer for 10 minutes ). Put out the flame and let cool.
Heat oil in a tempering pan, splutter mustard seeds and add red chilies. Fry till they get dark.
Now add curry leaves and the chopped small onions.
Now the Capsicum Paruppu curry is ready to serve. Serve hot with plain rice  or roti, phulkas as a side dish.
